Frequently Asked Questions

The good news is that we can help lead you through the decision making. We have 35 CEO advisory groups and counting, so the ideal fit is certainly on the table. Our introductory calls are about you—from the basics of your company, industry and location to the nuances of your goals and current roadblocks. Simply book a call, and our experienced Executive Directors will make a recommendation based on your situation.

Industry-specific groups matter because the hardest problems are rarely generic. An architecture firm managing partner working through succession, a subcontractor owner managing backlog and bonding capacity, an engineering principal weighing a multi-office merger and a hotel owner rebuilding a general manager bench are each solving something a general business group can only address in the abstract. In a CEN industry network, someone in the room has already run that play and can tell you what it cost.

Local boards give you something a national group cannot: peers who share your labor market, your regional economy, your state regulatory picture and often your customer base. Meetings are a short drive, and the relationships tend to carry on between sessions. If your metro is not listed, contact us. New boards form as demand builds, and a national industry or scale-based group may be the right fit in the meantime.

No. All of our networking groups are composed of non-competing leaders. Prospective members are vetted for comparable scale, strategic maturity, competitor-free status and the ability to contribute meaningfully.

We do not mix leadership levels in the same forum because a room with a CEO and someone else’s direct report is a room where nobody speaks plainly. Groups are also closed to vendors: no sponsors, no consulting agendas, no pitches. We have found that this combination is what allows members to discuss sensitive topics like pricing, M&A, capital structure, underperforming executives, succession and more.

Meetings are professionally facilitated and run on a structured agenda. A typical session moves through issue processing, where members bring live problems for candid input; strategic decisions under active consideration; accountability on commitments made at the previous meeting; and proven best practices from comparable companies.

You’ll leave with actionable next steps, not vague notes. Groups meet several times a year in concentrated two-day sessions, and between meetings you can pose a question anonymously and be matched within 24 hours with a CEO who has already solved it. To see the structure before committing, request a sample meeting agenda.

Less than most CEOs expect, and deliberately so. We are looking to deliver quality, not simply quantity. Our CEO networking groups meet throughout the year in select high  impact sessions to respect your busy schedule. Typically, national groups meet biannually for 2 days and local groups meet quarterly for a half day.

This format concentrates the value into a handful of dates you can plan around, and it is the reason members with $100 million-plus operations can sustain participation in our CEO peer groups for a decade or more. Everything else, mentor calls, masterclasses, benchmarking research, conference access, is optional and available on your schedule.

Yes, and it is one of the highest-leveraged parts of a CEN relationship. Because our CEO networking groups are exclusively CEOs, your executives join parallel programs built for their function.

  • Senior Executive Network. Peer advisory groups organized by executive role, including CFOs, senior finance executives, AEC finance executives, controllers, COOs, senior operations and supply chain executives, general managers, senior IT executives, engineering and R&D executives, senior sales and marketing executives, corporate development executives, senior HR executives and chief security officers.
  • Next-Level Leaders. A peer-based development program for high-potential managers and emerging leaders preparing for broader responsibility but not yet ready for the Senior Executive Network. It combines structured leadership development with peer discussion, practical tools and facilitated sessions on decision-making, communication and execution.

The compounding effect is the point. When your CFO, COO and rising directors each have an outside sounding board, decision quality improves at every level, not just yours.
